Winter Canyon
Since Doug posted his shots from our jaunt up to the canyon, I thought I'd post a few of mine that I thought came out ok. This first image was from our sunset at hopi point friday evening.

2 Another shot from around hopi point.

3 Lipan point in the early morning before sunrise. It was pretty cold as a snowstorm had just passed over and cleared in the 30 or so minutes waiting for the light.

4 This was also from Friday evening as the last light caught the low clouds and created a band of orange that kissed the tops of the temples and buttes.

5 Sunrise light as it reaches the upper ridges of the canyon from Lipan point

6 Some of the deep snow at the edge of the rim shooting towards the desert view watchtower. This light made the trip worth it.

Eh, I'd say they came out ok. Ok?!? Are you kidding me? These are all extraordinary with wonderful light and atmospherics combined with great compositions. If I had to pick a favorite I think it would be between #3 and #4 but there is not an image in this series that is less than spectacular. :toast:

Fantastic series, Peter. I have a meeting in Phoenix early next week and I am planning on spending two nights at the Grand Canyon this weekend, any suggestions on places for sunrise/sunset would be appreciated. It appears by your photographs that Hopi Point may be good for sunset?

Peter, I like #3 and your processing of the light on the Palisades in #6.

@Tom- Besides Hopi, I like Yavapai Pt and Desert View for sunset. For sunrise, Yaki, Mather, Yavapia and Lipan are nice.

Wow, what a series, Peter, fantastic. I like 3 and 6 most but the other four are inches behind. Great work!

Some extraordinary light and excellent work in capturing it to perfection.'Development' looks terrific and quite natural.
You must be thrilled!
I have got to start hangin' out with that Koepsel character more often!

Thank you everyone!

Tom- Doug would be spot on for some of the best spots for sunrise and sunset at the canyon. There are other spots along the way worth checking out to see if your "shot" could be elsewhere.

John- I think Doug has some sort of magic light magnet.

That's some awsome light and processing! #1 and 2 put me right behind the viewfinder! Very nice!

That light in 4 is amazing Peter, great shot! I really like 3 also. The clouds on the temples in 2 are amazing, but that one is a bit heavy on the foreground for me.

All of these are absolutely stunning. #4 is my favorite. As I said with Doug's image, this type of light is not very common and you pictured it well. It impresses me more every time I look at it. The staggering depth of the canyon is presented wonderfully in image #3 and I like the stark transition of dark to light in the first image.

Great processing and dramatic tones. I was just enjoying these on 500px before seeing this post.
