After the Grand Canyon, Peter Coskun and I drove to Monument Valley to see the annual Hot Air Balloon Event at the tribal park. I addition to th eballoons, we tried for a sunset and sunrise, but clouds prevented a colorful display.
As a side note, the campground by the View Hotel overlooking the Mittens is closed for construction, but there is a small camp area with 3 ramadas/tables about 1 mile from the highway on the way towards the park.
#1 Saturday evening at the Totem Pole overlook.
Also one image is also posted in ESS with more light on the land.

#2 Vertical (and wishing for better light on the Totem Pole)

#3 About 12 balloons launched Sunday morning, mainly from the Thumb area and drifted over Rain God Mesa.

#3 leaped off my monitor and landed right on my chest, LOVE that shot... it's downright perfect: comp, texture, chiascuro (sp?), impact... just great. Pitch that one to websites and chambers of commerce up there, you've got a winner!

Of course, my favorite Totem Pole image was posted in the Landscape gallery. An understated beauty, and I agree with Harry.
With the balloons, I quite like #3 and #5, surprisingly. Just a great cloud pattern complementing the balloon array.

The second and third images are my picks. I never tire of seeing these balloons set against red rock or blue skies (or both)!

A very nice set. Love the bright colors against the red rocks and blue sky.
