Male long-tailed duck
Nikon D7000 500mm f4 ISO 400 1/160s at f8 tripod.

If you saw Winterwatch the other day when Chris Packham went to see these gorgeous ducks this was taken at the same location today. Light was crap and not the forecast sun and I was tempted to put a ahighlight in the eye. Taken from the harbour wall so not an ideal POV.

As you imply, a lower viewpoint would have been nice. Unfortunately not possible without digging into the harbour wall, which may have upset a few people! Some very nice detail on the larger version.

Agree with David about the detail, the eye especially. No need for a highlight on the large version

You definitely made the best of the conditions, Nick. Larger version well worth a look. I wonder if CP got as good an image.
