I'm making plans on heading to the western side of Michigan.
Anyone have any info on the Ice build up on any of these
three lighthouses. St Joe's, South Haven, Grand Haven?
Leaving on Sunday.
Thanks Much!
Joe

Joe,

I don't know about St. Joe or South Haven, but surprisingly, the Grand Haven lighthouse doesn't have much snow/ice up at the present time. There is some build-up of ice on the pier itself, though. You'd think with all the snow we have had over the past week that the lighthouse would be pretty much covered.

I did some searching for web cams for the other 2 lighthouses, but didn't have much success when it came down to it. The cam I found in St. Joe is not working at the present time, and at this moment, it's difficult to see the South Haven light because it's snowing once again. Best bet tells me those two lights would probably have the best photo ops right now. Because of the direction they face into Lake MI, they usually get a lot of lake effect snow, thus more snow/ice on the lights.

Another one you could check is Point Betsie at Frankfort, if you have the time to go that far....about 2 hours north of Grand Haven.

Sorry I don't have more information for you. Good luck and good light!
