Mt Hood Sunrise
I made it up to Mt Hood for sunrise last week during the recent dry weather. I left Portland at about 4:30 AM to drive to the mountain and snowshoe up to this location. It was a beautiful morning and the duration of sunrise color was amazing. The horizon started glowing about 45 minutes prior to sunrise and just kept getting better until the sun came up. This is some of the most dramatic light I've experienced on the mountain.

Here are 2 images from that morning. Thanks for taking a look. All comments and suggestions are appreciated.

"Cascade Radiance II"

This one was captured a few minutes later. The landscape had this incredible glow about 5 minutes prior the first rays of light touching the summit of Mt Hood.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24mm at 14mm, no filters
Pano crop from a singe exposure - gotta love the D800s resolution!
1/4 sec at f/11, ISO 100

Beautiful Scott! The color on the snow is amazing! Definitely worth geting out of bed at 4:30 and driving to Hood!

Let's hope some of that dry weather returns so we can get some more of that winter light! :toast: :toast:

I love the second one...the tones on snow and sky from darker to light and shadows playing with the structures of distant mt...and forms in clouds.... very eye-pleasing.... The first is dynamic...sky jumps out and grabs me.

Excellent! Oh, that is indeed some gorgeous light, Scott. It must have been terrific to be on snowshoes up there. Love that lavender snow! And the comps look good-- kind of abstract and still able to relate to a mountain sunrise setting.

Gorgeous, and one of my favorite winter spots on the mountain. Wish I had your dedication to getting up and out so early!!!
