Sits well in the frame, but have you tried flipping it horizontally, might sit better and it would be looking 'into frame' rather than out? Good detail, but overall I do feel it looks a little flat, as there is no real tonal difference. Yes, you do have whites & blacks, but I feel it lacks a little depth if that makes sense. Yes, the plumage is soft, but like Snowy's, there is texture there, especially with such an accommodating BO, if you were using a 70-200. I like the diffuse, soft colours of the BKG that the f/5.6 has given at ISO800, but the blurring or NR applied is too strong IMHO, it's just too smooth and the vertical of the post doesn't look as crisp as the top, perhaps down to masking? Be nice to see it posted bigger to appreciate the image.

Thanks, Steve it could prob benifit from a bit more contrast but i was very keen to preserve the soft feel to the image as i personally like that. NR 40 to both in LR applied via a layer - i like a smooth background what can i say! The post perhaps a lack of selective sharpening applied to the top and parts of the owl... No biggy im afraid i have found them copied on others sites!!!
Keith, Barry, Neil and David, Thank you very much

Stunning image Phil and for me the soft light has really done the barn owl justice. Print it LARGE Sir!

Not bad Phil, knowing how early it came in your photo attempts. Your mission for this spring is to get out of bed early so you catch a few more worms

That's a lovely shot, Phil, especially if it was one of your early attempts at wildlife photography.
