Redwing
There is a pipeline carrying hot water that runs between a number of buildings at the University of Kent. In recent years they have improved the insulation, but even so it is easy to track in cold weather as the snow always melts above it very quickly, however low the temperature may be. This makes it a spot where the local blackbirds and song thrushes congregate, and I had a session with them during the recent cold weather. I will post at least one song thrush in due course.

I was about to come away, when I noticed two redwings just off the footpath. The light had virtually gone (look at the exposure), but even so I was pleased to get this shot. It was a great experience to have birds I normally find quite jumpy running around almost at my feet.

Thanks for looking.

Bird very sharp and at 1/60s on a 600mm, very impressed. Perhaps tone down the light patch over the birds head as it does pull the eye a little. Nice to see one on the ground and not in a tree.
