I had a meeting in Scottsdale last week and decided to spend a few days at the Grand Canyon. It was a great time to be there. Small crowds and good weather. I would have liked a few clouds to work with but you have to take what you get.
This shot was taken a Desert View looking east with the Watch Tower presiding over the Colorado River at sunrise.

This shot was take from Lipan Point looking at the Unkar Delta and Unkar Creek Rapid below. I have found memories of this spot because back in 2007 we camped just upstream and explored the ruins above Unkar Creek rapid. I was fortunate to spend eight days rowing an 18 foot raft from Lees Ferry to Phantom Ranch.

Grand Canyon in winter is a special place. I camped out a few years back in the snow and it was a fantastic trip.
Lipan Pint is probably my favorite spot on the south rim too.
Good stuff.

Nice composition and light Tom. The diagonal line of the cliff leading to the great light on the tower is spot on.

Good stuff Mr Tom. Glad you could get away from your business activities for a side trip.
I've only made it to the north rim, on opening day last May, and now know that photos do this place little justice ... you have to see it with your own eyes to really appreciate its majesty.

I really like the first one, Tom. I like the way the distant mesas are lit by the early light. I've never been to the GC but it is definately on my list.

I like the first one as well, for much the same reason as stated by Tom. Nice work on both images. Would like to get here someday my self.

Love that first one, Tom. Great composition and the light was perfect! Glad you were able to spend some time in such a magnificent place.

Great images Tom. The first has a warm glow to a cold scene. The tower gives me perspective, then I drop over the rim to follow the river. Great depth, and just a pleasure to view.

Here is a link to a few more shots from my recent trip. The river shots were taken back in 2007.
