Has anyone tried the Kenko 1.4 on a Nikon 200mm macro. As far as I know, Nikon does not have a teleconverter for this lens and I have read mixed reviews on this combo. I would like to hear from photographers who have this combo so that I can make a decision. Thanks, Ray Dove

Well, I use a Nikon TC14 with my Nikkor 200/4 macro lens when I want a bit more macro magnification than the lens alone, and it works fine. Of course, that's a TC14 B-type before they even started putting letters on the back of them, and I bought it used in 1985. I bought the lens new in 1980. I really haven't felt much need for AF when I'm shooting macro subjects.

I use a a Kenko 1.4x on a Sigma 150mm f/2.8 with full AF.
Also use the Kenko 2x on the 300mm f/2.8, have AF but could be a bit faster though.
The Kenko 1.4x should work OK with an F/4 lens, but the 'brighter' the better when adding a tele of course..

Richard, I have the TC14B, but it will not attach to the 200 macro. Mine is a later model than yours and that may be the difference. Thanks for info

The TC14B is physically the same as my older TC14. The TC14 was introduced in 1978; in 1983 (I think) Nikon introduced a 1.4x for lenses under 300mm (no elements projecting beyond the plane of the lens mount) which they named TC14A, and renamed the older TC14 thatI have as the TC14B model.
Which 200 macro do you have? Is it the MF or the AF version? There's at least 3 inches of empty lens barrel at the rear of my 200/4 macro MF from 1980 to accommodate the lens cluster that sticks up into the lens on the TC14 (and on the old TC300 2x).

My 200 macro is AF even though I never use the af for macro subjects but always focus manually for depth of field purposes. I'm about to leave for a couple of days but will try again when I get back. Thanks
