Here's another from the archive. This is a pretty severe crop from the original transparency. I really liked the small details and textures in this portion of the tree.

Tachihara 4x5
Probably my Fujinon 180mm
Astia
Sonora Pass, Spring 2004

Please see the large version.

Your thoughts a re always appreciated.

This one is excellent, Preston. The cropped composition, textures, lines, colors, detail, and even down to the small amount of tree moss along the side.

You are sand baggin'! Yet another one I've yet to see.

Excellent intimate detail in this image. Just the kind of stuff you know I love to photograph too. I really like the layers here and the literal peeling away - like the tree is being weathered and aging right here in this image.

The only suggestion I have would be to drop the higher values and deep shadows in the LL quadrant. Doesn't need much, but the bark in the lower left look like it needs some burning and contrast - again, just a tweak rather than a fix.

Great stuff! You'll have to show me this tree next time we're up there. If you can remember.

Thanks for your comments, gents.

Lon, I'll work that LL quadrant a bit. I do see what you mean.

Well, I know for a fact that you've walked by this tree at least a few times! It's on the upper part of that slab area where you were shooting the Feldspar crystals. I may be a BDOF, but I do remember where this tree is.

Real nice intimate, PB. Is there any detail to pull out in the dark spot? It is real minor, but I find that area pulls my eye just a bit. Otherwise, thumbs up here.
