Yesterday evening, Adam Schallau and I drove to Sedona to catch the evening light over Sedona from the airport mesa, and then the Milky Way over Cathedral. The skies were forecasted to be clear, and with light winds so the reflection pools would have a nice surface.
As always, C&C gladly accepted.

#3 D90 iso1600, 20sec, Tamron 28-75 @ 28mm f/2.8
(oh to have the ISO and noise capabilities of the D800 rather than my D90.)

Doug,
Why not pick up a used d700, a very capable and still relevant camera?

I increased the brightness about 30 points for the star shot and blended that layer back in just over the bottom third to help bring out the reflection pool.
Joe, I am waiting to see what happens with the sensor oil spot problem on the D600. That may give some time to save some money.

Very nice, Doug! Looking forward to visiting Sedona next month...

Great light in the first and second image Doug. I really like the star shot, and I was thinking of taking an almost identical shot on my next visit up there (which may be this Saturday if you want to meet up). I would have liked to see more detail in the rocks with the night shot. Looks like both you and Adam made good with the clear skies.

The "Milky Way" as most people shoot it isn't really visible this time of year. Summer is best, July and August. The d700 is a great camera for high ISO and can be had used for less than half the cost of a D800.

# 2 is real nice, Doug. Shadows are a tad heavy in 1.

I like #1 the best, solid comp. I wasn't sold on the first star shot, the repost seems better though too dark overall for my tastes. The night time reflection is pretty cool though.

Thanks for your comments. In #1, it tried added contrast above my normal tastes for something more dramatic. The reflection star shot seems to be a failed attempt and due for a heavy bottom crop.

Nice series Doug. I am partial to the star shot on the repost.
