I have a friend who is wanting an introductory Canon DSLR.
Rebel would be a good choice.
Anyone out there wanting to part with one of these?

Rod, one of the Rebels or similar D3xxx series from Nikon would be a great starter camera for your friend. I do not have anything like that to part with but KEH might have some pretty good deals on some used models.
They also might look into the M/43 models. Some of those can be had new for $300-400 with the kit lens.
