For those in the area beware!----this is going to add a lot of time getting from Page southbound for a while. I'll be there next month doing my workshop, Can they fix this in time?--JG

Ouch...

That has hurt written all over it. Looks like a good sized project Jack. Being a popular route they might pull out all the stops and attack it pretty quickly. However, I would not plan on using this route for quite awhile no matter what. :frown:

Note that it is highway 89, NOT highway 89A that's closed (but yes--89 is the road from Page south to Flagstaff; 89A splits off just south of the rockslide and continues to Jacob Lake etc).

This will not be a quick fix, unfortunately. :frown:
A friend in Flagstaff told me that it appears that the side of the mountain slipped out from underneath the highway.
A SWAG tells me that it won't reopen 'til summer.

I don't see a problem here. Just put it in 4 low and go for it. :jump:

I went for a hike up at Marble Canyon a couple days ago and had some good views of the slide. It's a big fracture, and I imagine stabilizing it will take quite a while.

Just for clarification, 89A is open from its junction with 89 near Bitter Springs to Lees Ferry/Marble Canyon, Jacob Lake and Fredonia.
It is the stretch of 89 that is closed from the junction with 89A up towards Page.(edit/oops, I see Brian already said this)
Nice images Brian to show the slump.

I saw in yesterday's Flagstaff paper that the Navajo Nation is saying 89 will be closed for 8 months.
