Bittern in flight
Hi all,

Haven't posted for a while as my laptop packed it in periodically, but it's working again now so I can get at my pictures again. I've spend far too much time trying to photograph Bitterns this winter, and I have managed some shots I'm pleased with, one of which is this one, taken at the weekend.

Techs:
Nikon D300s
Nikon 600mm f4 AFS-II and 1.4x TC
Tripod
F8
1/800s
ISO 500

Thanks for looking

Alarmingly good Oscar. Wish it were mine.

Lovely shot, Oscar, and I like the crop. Make sure you have all your photos backed up somewhere else - sooner or later the laptop will pack up permanently. I back up all my pictures on two external hard drives, and know that many other photographers on here do something similar. You have too many hours invested in bittern pictures to lose them!

The larger file does it more justice Oscar - that's a cracker :toast:

Stunning shot Oscar and the trailing legs really add to the image. It could be a trick of the eye but it looks like it needs some CCW. Your bittern portfolio must be very impressive by now.

Thanks for the comments all.

Nick I've been thinking the same! I'm not sure though, as I tried doing it on my screen and then it started to look like the bird was flying at an odd angle. I think it's those ripples at the bottom that are the troublemakers!

Superb shot, a pity there's no water snail in its beak though.
