A little superstitious
As many of you know Arizona got some good winter weather yesterday. I debated driving two hours in either direction and getting up early, but decided to sleep in this day and keep my ears open for anything that were to happen for sunset. A friend of mine told me there was snow up on the superstition mountains, so I figured I would go check it out. There was no sunset, but the conditions were like nothing I've ever experienced there. It was also the most crowded I've ever seen this town, as cars were parked alongside the road taking photos of this rare event. Here are a few images I shot from lost dutchman state park.

#3 is superb and #2 is not far behind. Interesting to see these conditions - thanks for sharing. :wavey:

Peter, I'm glad you caught the brief light. My preference is for 1 & 2, with a little crop off the top of 2. Sweet.

Well done, Peter! No wonder there were so many folks there. My favorites are the two b&w images as these conditions lend themselves well to that rendering. Nice work, esp. for sleeping in and just driving across town.

The B&Ws are my favorites, too. Nice job!

You caught some great conditions.
I agree with Peter on the crop for #2.
In fact, I might go even further and crop off the left to emphasize the great light on the rocks in the lower right.

1, 3, and 6 are just phenomenal. Nice catch Peter. Recharging for the next AZ Highways contest so soon ? :)

The conditions remind me of some views of Red Rock to the west of Vegas yesterday. Must have been something happening meteorological in the southwest to make all this happen.

I live 45 minutes from there, I must be NUTS not to travel over there more often. Superb set Peter!

BTW Peter, at sunset I was a bit north of Phoenix heading up near Cave Creek, and I stopped because there was amazing weather in almost every direction. This was looking SE towards where you were, about 6:15pm, pretty crazy skies. The inch of hail/sleet/freezing rain an hour earlier was even more bizarre!

Oh my these are awesome! Very well done! I love #3 and #6 the most but very nice set of photos.

My favorites are 2 & 7, I guess I prefer the warmer tones mixed with the fog/clouds. Nice set. Don't you wish we had this crazy weather more often? It looks like 2013 is shaping up to be an awesome year for dynamic landscapes. Come on wildflowers!

Thanks everyone.

Bob, I was hoping there would be some wildflowers at the base of the mountain for foregrounds. There was a sprout or two of poppies, but that was it. Hopefully in the next few weeks as it warms up a bit.

3 is pretty sweet!

All of these are killer. #3 is reminiscent of an Ansel Adams Yosemite shot. Quite dramatic. I also love #2, the warm glow really lights up those clouds.

Very nice! A rare event indeed, and well captured!
