I was critisized and taken to task for saying that this site did not have any serious bird shooters and for recommending AJ's site for posts by more serious shooters of PNW birds.
Since I was told I was wrong in this, I decided to do some numbers gathering. What I found was that since the end of Dec there have been 16 pages of threads on this site total. Of those 16 pages of 40 threads per page, there were approximately 29 threads directly about a bird or birds. Some of these were not even PNW birds, but birds from Florida and other places people visited during their travels. But they were birds, so I counted them.
Since there is a limit of one image per so many hours on this site and most of these threads only had a couple of posts besides the original first post of the thread, I can assume that that equals to about 29 bird pictures. Maybe a few more if I missed some.
It wasn't quit so easy to count how many bird threads were on AJ's site. From the end of Dec. there were 12 pages of 30 threads each page in the Wildlife forum alone. Not all of these were of birds, but the majority of them were. And since AJ does not have a 1 picture limit, many of them had 5 or more pictures on each thread. So without actually counting the numbers, I can say that there are a lot more bird threads and images posted on AJ's site than there are here. It's not just quanity either, many of these are high quality shots.
So, for those that critisized me and are saying I'm wrong, the numbers just don't back you up. Some of you may be serious bird shooters that particapate on this site, but you aren't posting very many bird pictures. And this is what I said in the other thread when I mentioned to Dan that if he was looking for serious posters of bird images, this was the not the place for it. I wasn't trying to take anything away from those that do post pictures of birds... but I will stand by my comments.
Mike, the issue as I see it, was the way you put it sounded like a put down to this group. I took it a little personal as well as some others I think. I can see why Geoff stuck up for us.
If you like that group then great, but when you post something that sounds like a put down expect some people to be offended.
Mike,
You haven't posted a photo and have only commented on a couple of images in the last nine months. The only time you ever comment on this forum is to either stir up $#%&, insult, or to bitch and complain abouth how bad this forum is. I know you have a problem with this forum because you have told me personally. So I'm going to close this thread and hope if you do post something, it will be constructive for a change. I'm sorry but as a moderator, I felt It is my job to step in .
Well I'm thinking that this thread isn't really adding "value" to the forum. As such I would like to ask folks if we might drop this one?
I think it's unfortunate that feathers get ruffled from time to time (sorry that's how I usually refer to momentary burps like this) and I doubt that it was personal in any way but I have found that the sooner we move on the better.
