Paint Mines
Wanted to photograph the GOG last week, unfortunately it got ZERO snow...so on to plan 'B'--drove out to Calhan post blizzard for a visit to the paint mines. There was less snow this time than the last post-blizzard trip there (with Morris) so i was able to drive to the trailhead this time. Unfortunately i discovered that the sun at sunset this particular time of year is directly behind Pikes Peak, which meant the sunset light was subpar. But i think i still came away with a keeper or two--will let you be the judge!

Stan, my favorite of the five is #4 with its abstract qualities and the contrasts of light and color in the scalloped snow. A possible suggestion would be to crop off the top a tiny bit to shed the two lighter areas along the top edge.

Number 3 is my favorite. Wonderful composition and the lighting is superb. I also see faces and creatures in this. Even the bust of a man looking at the head of an eagle, or dolphin, but that is just my wacky imagination.

#4 is quite nice and pretty unique. Real fine lighting, too. This is the one I would have posted in the Landscape gallery.

Dang it, you should have called! A fine set from there, and I like #4 as the best of these as well.
