Hi everyone,

During last weekend's snowstorm along the Front Range I tried to push myself to shoot a different style than the "grand vistas" I'm accustomed to shooting. A good friend and fellow photographer inspired me to try a minimalism approach to landscapes, and got out during the snowstorm to try my hand at it. I'm very pleased with the results!

Definitely still learning how to employ this approach more effectively but I'm encouraged with the results so far. Hope you all had a good weekend!

Less IS better in some cases. For a reason I can't explain, I prefer the first image. But both are striking!

I like the concept and both photos. I could go back and forth about taking out some of the empty sky.

I'm with Ken, I definitely prefer the first. I think it's because the trees appear smaller amid all the white, and something about their sparse little ground makes them seem even lonelier in the winter expanse. The larger solo tree in #2 draws my attention too much to the tree itself, but it's just a tree, the emotional resonance of these images comes not from the subjects but from their context.

Exactly! And that's why I also much prefer the first one.
