Birds on wires are not normally exciting, especially when there are massive posts in the way of the bird. However, in nearly 40 years of wildlife photography this was my first opportunity at a merlin, and I thought it was worth posting. This is quite a crop, and I wonder if others would have done it differently. I will add the original full frame as well so you can see for yourselves.
Thanks for looking,
David

Obviously a rather ugly wire and fence setup, electrified I presume. But a merlin is a Merlin and well worth a try David. always makes me wonder why they sit on the stupid bit of white ceramic and not on the comfy post....
Never seen one of these, hopefully will do soon! Nice shot, although I think possibly too big a crop for me

I would be tempted to keep the original size as it puts it more in its habitat and the BG is very nice. Great capture David and one I would be pleased with.

I too would have taken the shot wire/post included how many times do they choose to sit on a photogenic perch they don't for me?
If the Merlin hadn't been there you wouldn't have taken the shot. The large version is full of detail. Thanks for sharing.
