D7000 500mm f4 + TC14e ISO 400 1/800s at f6.3 monopod.
This was taken on the same day as my hare shot later in the afternoon. I was almost off the hill and had stopped to drink the last dregs of my flask. After a while I looked up to see a red grouse studying me. I took some shots with the bird small in frame and slowly moved toward the bird taking shots each time I stopped. This is pretty much full frame and the grouse was totally unperturbed. I actually think it was as interested in me as I was of it! Another amazing experience and I always thank my subject for being so helpful.
The title is taken from Andy Rouse's book "Concepts of Nature" where he devotes a chapter to Red5, the early morning and late afternoon light which he loves to shoot in.
Many thanks for the comments on my last post. I have one more otter image from that encounter which I will post next.
