The result for FC 27 'Winter Light' challenge has just been posted - congrats Justin, but only just, as it was very close on a split vote - first time this has happened.
As there hasn't been a big take up for the challenges, in fact none for the previous three challenges, I have changed the next two categories to be less abstract themes.
As to their future, well, I have thought of four options that may be workable;
1) continue as we are with less abstract themes
2) 'the mods' pick there favourite image from the last two weeks.
3) continue with a different approach in that we all pick our favourite image from the last two weeks (you are not allowed to pick your own ) and email the result to me.
4) forget about it.
I think we should give 3) a go; but if anybody wants to put forward another solution please feel free.
I would go for option 2) as I reckon with option 3) you will get very few email votes as everyone will forget.
I would just have maybe one rule, only images taken recently (say last 4 weeks) and of a seasonal nature should be included. I think that encourages everyone to get out taking photo's rather than just looking up a great image from their archives and post that instead. Just an idea.
I'd go with option 3 with Seans tweak suggested for option 2.
Only allow images taken within the current month to be considered. The uploaders would need to confirm they are recent by adding a date to the image exif info most people provide. Policing when they were actually taken should be 'on trust' as no one is going to be winning a 6 month safari holiday lol
It would be nice if a few more chipped in on this with their comments & suggestions - it takes a bit of effort to organise and co-ordinate these sort of things (Challenges, Picks, Get-togethers etc) and it's a bit demoralising for us Mod's when we don't get much feedback .
Ups, just saw this - have never been much for these abstract challenges, but the new idea -either 2 or 3 sounds fine with me. I agree that only recent pics should participate.
Thanks for the input guys, it is much appreciated.
Since I am keen to get a greater sense of collaboration between people who view the forum we will try 3 for a while and revert to 2 if it doesn't work.
The only rule will be "Sean's Rule", namely; only images within the last 4 weeks, of a seasonal nature, should be included.
So how do we progress this then?
Well I suggest that, starting at the start of July (2nd) ...
1) Every two weeks a mod will post a 'Call for Votes' topic on the forum asking for votes to be cast for the previous two weeks worth of images. This post we stipulate the start date and the end date, please assume that 12 midnight is the watershed.
2) Each viewer of the forum (member or guest) can either a) post their vote within the 'Call for Votes' topic or b) email me (by clicking my name at the top of the main forum page) with their anonymous choice.
3) I will tally these and notify the forum of the winner within the subsequent 'Call of Votes' topic and update the winners page under the 'Challenges' link
4) The only rule, 'Sean's Rule', is a trust rule - so play fair for your own reputation. That said, the Mods reserve the right to ask to be emailed the actual full unaltered image to resolve any dispute - if you do not comply with this request, witin one week of the request (if the request ever happens), you will be deemed to have withdrawn your entry.
5) The winner for the previous fortnight is not eligible to be considered of the next fortnight, thus ensuring we don't get a double post of time-series of shutter presses
6) As 'The Mods' may be asked to decide a split vote, 'The Mods' images are not to be considered.
Comments and suggestions on tweaks to the above are most welcome... I am trying to sort out some form of small prize for the most prolific annual winner.
Bit late replying to this one but better late than never
Thanks for choosing my 'Winter Light' shot and No's 2 and 3 on the list sound like a good idea.

I somethimes wonder if people don't look at the top of the forum.
