Is anyone interested in a spring waterfall outing? I have never gone on a waterfall shoot and would love the opportunity to shoot with and learn from others. Since we have a world famous waterfall area in the gorge, it would be a great place to do a PNWNP gathering. There are many other great waterfall areas as well, such as Mt. Rainier. If you are interested in the outing, where would you like to go?
As for date I‘m thinking late April or early May. We should get good diffused light and plenty of liquid sunshine, which would make for a soggy camping experience. Hotels anyone?
I would very much enjoy the Gorge waterfalls, esp if some or all of our OR photogs, who are experts on the Gorge are willing to join the outing. What fun!
Thanks, Steve, for the suggestion!l!

It would heavily depend on the date for me, but would love to join for at least some if possible.

I'll be in Yosemite that weekend, but would love to join you all for any other weekend...

I have 5 people asking for the weekend of April 27 (sorry David!). I think I will plan to stay at the Best Western in Cascade Locks. I can ask for group rates if we have others that want to stay there too. Anyone interested? I plan to come down on Thursday night or Friday morning.
Steve,....Larry Simpson, Steve Lepenske, and Ken Smith...are planning on it....probably two nights Fri and Sat. We haven't talked through the details... perhaps...two queen bds and roll-away for us. Ken S

Aloha! I thought I'd make you all jealous and sent a not from Hawaii.
This photo was taken on a snorkeling trip but the whales stole the show.
This is the list of who plans to go on the spring shoot, along with who plans to stay at the hotel in Cascade Locks. At least this is what I was able to determine between Mai Tai's.
Me, 1 room
Catherine, 1 room
Marylynne, are you staying at the hotel?
Joe, are you staying at the hotel?
Bruce, 1 room
Ken, Steve and Larry, 1 room with 2beds and a pullout.
Did I get everyone correctly?
I will be home on Monday and will make the hotel reservations then.
I think I'm going to try to make it. I'll stay at home, in Portland, and meet up on Saturday. What time do y'all plan to leave the hotel Saturday a.m.?
I made reservations for 4 rooms for Friday and Saturday nights (also for Catherine for Sunday night). The hotel is The Best Western Plus Columbia River Inn in Cascade Locks, 735 Wanapa Street, 541-374-8777.
I will email each person that requested a room with more details.
Catherine and I will be making some sort of agenda. We would love any of your suggestions, must shoots, etc.
I recommend Wahclella and Elowah Falls for hiking/photography (combined mileage to do both would be just 4.8 miles). If we want to stick closer to the road, then perhaps Latourell, Wahkeena, and Multnomah, followed by Horsetail and Ponytail.
These are good suggestions Marylynne. I'm up for anything. It has been many years since I've spent time in the waterfall areas f the gorge. I would also be up for a slosh up Oneonta Gorge and/or a visit to the infamous punch bowl.
I received a suggestion about going to Gorton Creek, that it has good photo opportunities. Is anyone familiar with Gorton Creek?
We will probably be there at a good time for the wildflower show on the Rowena Plateau too.
There are so many excellent places to shoot in the area I know we can't hit them all in 2 days.

I am hoping I can join up Saturday; Sunday is out for sure.
I was able to spend the past few days in the Gorge and the Columbia Hills. (I posted my favorite in Landscape.) The flowers are coming along nicely, with hopefully more to come. The Rowena Plateau was very early last weekend. In the Columbia Hills State Park, the balsamroot have a good start but I don't think they will be heavy this year. The lupine may do better; it looks like quite a bit more of that is coming and it may be doing well that weekend.
In the gorge, the greens are still pretty early. The deciduous trees make a nice contrast this time of year; they are much more yellow than the conifers. The fern and moss along the streams have a ways to hit peak. The falls are flowing nicely though.
I do think the biggest problem will be too many places to hit in such a short time, especially if you head east to catch Rowena, but too many is always better than too few!

One place I would like to visit during our gorge shoot is Oneonta Gorge. This requires walking up the gorge in the river so waders would be highly recommended if anyone wishes to join me. Here is a shot taken inside the Ononta Gorge by Marc Adamus http://www.marcadamus.com/photo.php?id=436&gallery=waterfall
We don't have a set agenda yet since much will depend on the weather, but if we get the chance, Oneonta is high on my list.

Mahalo!
PNWNP'ers: We've got a great group forming up and still time to get in on it. Waterfalls and wildflowers. What could be better?
I will email each person that requested a room with more details.
