An American Bittern works his way through the grasses and waters edge at Ridgefield NWF.
I spent a few hours at the refuge last saturday and was surprised to spot 3 bitterns all looking for a meal.

Nice shot Craig! Good detail and the pose is great. Excellent eye contact. He's looking you over carefully. Like he's about to say don't mess with my meal.
Holy cow! What a shot! You lucky!!
Was it "blurping?" I so remember the sound it made right next to me and puzzling over what it was, until it flew out of the reeds and away before I could train my camera on it. Hope to get a good shot this year.
Beautiful capture...great eye...! Frame-filling too. Sharp where it needs to be sharp. Well done.

Another great bittern shot to add to your collection Craig. I like the sharp bird surrounded by the blurred vegetation; natural framing. I'd probably clone out the shadow on the bill to keep it from pulling away from the eye, but that's a tiny nit.

Craig, this is an awesome image. Sharp, clear, no obstructions, very cool.
