I'm going stir crazy. Cabin fever is in full swing and I need to get away. Looking to take a 4-5 day trip anywhere but the Midwest (and Spring Break territories)!! Where do you all go this time of year?

I am headed to White Pocket and Cedar Mesa in two weeks. Yosemite is nice this time of year, Zion, Bryce. Where do you live?

I live in Indianapolis. Was thinking Grand Canyon, Siesta Key (FL), AZ/NM, or just about anywhere!!

Any of those are good. I have done Yosemite, Death Valley, Big Sur, Moab all around spring. All are good choices.
I'm headed to AZ in a couple of days for a long weekend. My daughter lives in the Phoenix area and I always try to get down there in March for some visiting time, some baseball, and a couple of desert sunrises and sunsets. Good stuff.
It's a couple of weeks early for wildflowers in S.Cal and AZ and the Great Smoky Mts, but AZ does have plenty of other things like NPs and NMs that are worthy even without flowers. Plus, Tucson has some nice public outdoor swimming pools to enjoy and they're low cost as well! Florida is always good for birds from Feb through May, especially around Fort Meyers and St Augustine. Costa Rica is pretty awesome for birds this time of year as well!
Right now? Arizona---I'm headed to Bluff, UT tomorrow night and then Grand Falls (AZ, Navajo Reservation) on Thursday afternoon, on to my brother's place in Scottsdale on Friday. I'm seeing some good wildflower reports so plan to make day trips to check them out over the weekend and into next week, also catch the Rockies game on the 28th. Here's a couple of links to reports: http://www.desertusa.com/wildflo/az.html. http://wildinarizona.com/wordpress/?tag=arizona-wildflower-forecast. Oh ya, and sunrises and sunsets.

Not from what I've been seeing from Peter Coskun and Guy Schmickle. Looks like the flowers in southern Az are happening right now. Hopefully one of them can add more details.

I just got back from Death Valley. It's a nice, short drive from Vegas with great camping and economical hotel opps.

Arizona is probably at it's best right now. The temps are enjoyable, and there are plenty of wildflowers around the Phoenix/Globe area and more flowers on their way to blooming. It's colorful out here, and lots of places to hide from the crowds. Northern Arizona is just starting to warm up and the sandstone around Page is out of this world. Slot canyons shouldn't be too crowded yet, but I haven't been up there lately to see. Grand canyon is always nice, as are Wupatki and sunset crater national monument just outside of Flagstaff. Navajo land is beautiful. My suggestion would be anywhere in the southwest. Grand Falls may not be flowing as well in a few days/week as Doug K just visited and the flow was from the recent snow melt.

Amy, if you are flying, Vegas would be a good start with a car rental to Valley of Fire just north of Vegas, and Death Valley.
And from the images I have seen, the flowers around Phoenix are showing well right now.

Vegas is still fairly good - the weather is dynamic (been cloudy most of the week) - and those places mentioned (VoF, DV) are fairly accessible and cool. But not long from now we'll see our last cloud and those places will be 100+ and miserable - until the monsoons hit late July.
Just back from the Cave Creek AZ area and it is really getting good. Next week should be perfect. Cave Creek regional park, Bush Highway around Saguarro Lake has carpets of Poppies.

I am going to Yellowstone late May. Should have lots of animals and babies to photograph.
