The western wall of the Guadalupe Mountains in west Texas as seen from 40 miles away in New Mexico. The western side of the Guads is an impressive sight. There is a 5000' drop into the salt basin at the foot of the mountains and 1500' of that drop is basically a sheer cliff. It is one of the best places to photograph in Texas and a frequent place for me to visit(when I can have a long weekend since it is a 500 mile drive to get there).
Even at 40 miles away the Guads still plainly end at the magnificent El Capitan. The high point you see there is Guadalupe Peak. At 8900' it is the highest point in both Texas and all of the CSNP region.

That is a really cool scene Darren and a good piece of information that you shared with us about the area. 40 miles away ... that's something.
I like this one even better with some off the top ... down just enough to leave a bit of the darker tones capping off this lovely shot.

Great colors, Darren, talk about purple mountain majesty!
I agree with Wayne, even though the color in the sky is nice, I would be tempted to take about the top third,most of the grey area off.

Beautiful Darren. These mountains were my first subject matter I ever shot. I got a new Kodak Instamatic camera just before my family headed for Carlsbad on vacation. This looks a lot better than my stuff...

Credit (or maybe) blame the Guadalupes for why I never make group weekends in Arkansas. Both places are about 8 hours away and I always choose west over east any day.
