Can anyone give me some insight on if there are any drawbacks to using the RAW file from the D800 (which of course must be converted to DNG) on CS5? I recently purchased the D800 and wanted to do some post processing but I've noticed some really weird results coming out of it. I have used the DNG files for the raw converter on CS5 at work on some product shots and didn't notice any issue but now that I'm working with Landscapes I'm wondering if I'll need to make the jump to CS6 and not limp along using CS5 anymore.

It shouldn't be an issue - in fact some would argue that DNG is a more "stable" format, since it's Adobe's proprietary file system.

Have you tried Nikon's own RAW conversion software and then compared the results with what you get from ACR/CS5?

Do you have Lightroom 4? You get the same raw engine in LR4 that you get with CS6. The raw engine in CS6 and LR4 is newer than that of CS5 / LR3. You can download a trial version of LR4 from Adobe and see if the results differ from what you are seeing in CS5.

LR 4 all the way!
