A tragedy for his family and friends. The Great Mother Nature is once again cold and unforgiving to those that miscalculate her sheerness and beauty.

Was this legal at the time he did it? So sad for his family. So much for cheap thrills.

The article I read said it is in fact legal for private parties to do this. It said that they had prohibited guided commercial parties from doing this but they could not prohibit individuals from doing it. Apparently it is currently on state owned lands but will soon be BLM land after a land swap between the state and federal governments. They interviewed someone from BLM who said they would investigate further and come up with a plan.

I hate to say it, but it was bound to happen. It is indeed sad but it was just a matter of time before someone incorrectly rigged the anchor, miscalculated the rope length or made some other grave mistake. In this case it was totally preventable. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim.

The videos were great, but I also felt it would be just a matter of time before an oversight or miscalculation would lead to severe injury. Too bad it had to be the death of a 22 year old. So tragic !

I agree with Bret. Very tragic for this young man and for his family and friends. But with so many things that can go wrong in that exercise, it was only a matter of time before someone paid with his or her life. :frown:
