Printing Large
I thought you guys might be interested in this recent project. The Estes Park Resorts Hotel on Lake Estes is trying to upgrade everything including its restaurant, the Waterfront Grille. They contacted me about supplying a photo for a 30 foot by 6 foot space. It took a lot of time to help them understand that most of the images they wanted wouldn't fit in this very narrow ratio and that only a few images can be printed large enough and with enough detail. I had pretty much given up on finding one that they liked and which matched those needs. Then one morning in mid-February the sky lit up above Lake Estes and while I was taking shots I decided to use my new D800e to try and get one in the ratio they wanted which would include the hotel in the image. I shot this as a 4 image horizontal stitch. As soon as they saw it, they wanted it. The photo had an amazing amount of detail so that you could see every little detail clearly. It's a very impressive camera!

The piece needed to be removable so that they can open this accordion wall each weekend. So, we did it in canvas panels that attach to the carpeted wall with Velcro. Duraplaq came to the rescue and made it happen. We installed it yesterday and I think it came out really well.

I'll say the same thing I said on FB....WOW!!!!! An amazing photo and ingenious way to put it up so it can be removed!

Ingenius portability aside, it's a stunning image. Simply beautiful, Erik. What a great response to the challenge.

Very impressive Erik. Is the canvas mounted on anything, or does it just hang?
