Sharp Tail Mating Dance
There's a lek on a ranch near here where I can get close to Sharp Tail Grouse during their mating ritual. This was this morning, kinda flat light and a fence in the background, but still interesting. I'll keep working on it.

That's a real interesting behavioral shot Rod. Kind of looks like the one on the right is slipping on some ice! Very nice capture.

Good job, Rod. The closest I've been able to get to Sharp-tailed Grouse on public leks has been about 60 yards (sw of Hayden,CO), so you definitely need to take advantage of this.

Rod...this is really great action shot... you clicked on the right moment.....beautiful details on the bird up in the air...

Well done indeed. Exposure is spot on which may not have been easy with the snow. I suspect you had limited choices for a background, Otherwise not having the fence may have been beneficial.

Pretty cool with the grouse being vertical in the air. I hope you can get the same action without the background fence.

Went back and got some more action. What I'm finding out after doing a little research is that this is actually a territorial battle between two males in the lek. Here's another shot showing the attack by one male on the other.
