Here is some fantastic light I caught in the Guadalupe Mountains of west Texas back in January.
The short story is it has been raining all day, so much that I went to Carlsbad Caverns to get out of the rain (always 56 degrees in the caverns). Driving back to the Guads the rain stopped and I thought I spotted a distant gap in the clouds. Drove out to this spot and waited in drab light. I got lucky as the sun just caught the corner of a small gap in the clouds right at sunset lighting up the mountains behind me.
See my blog for the longer story and images of the conditions leading up to the sunset light.
Darren, your patience paid off nicely! Your shot leads the eye from the foreground to the background very nicely.

Excellent Darren. You should bring your talent to Arkansas sometime!

Darren, you were sure rewarded with some great light there for a few minutes. That is some dramatic light on the peaks. I think I would be tempted to crop off the right side and concentrate on those nicely lit peaks and the clouds above them.

Thanks for the comments.
Here is a tighter view on the mountains. I tend to like wide views with a good foreground and that one yucca was about the best one available.
You are correct, Darren - we sometimes have to make our own luck and what a great example you have presented here. One of the differences between being a good photographer and a great one, is having the knowledge, experience, and foresight to place ourselves in the right place at the right time. Nice work, dude.
