Impressionistic Ocean View
Spent a long weekend at the coast--Cannon Beach--and had a lot of fun playing around with long exposures. I picked up a 10stop ND a while back and wondered what the ocean would look like.

This was shot during the day, very overcast with fairly rough ocean waves, 6 seconds at f/8. I thought the gray day called for a black and white look, so here it is. I really like it, but wanted to get other opinions...kinda different. Check out the larger version too.

Comments and critiques appreciated.

Very painterly, David; I like this a lot! It's the perfect impression of an overcast day on the Coast. I was thinking of using my 10 stop ND when I was at Bandon in December. But the weather was so wet, I didn't try it. I hope you keep working with yours. I'd like to see more examples of work done with that tool.
P.S. Makes me think it would be fun to have a "10-stop Outing." Just think of the possibilities as everyone eggs each other on!

This is a very cool image David! It has a very definite mood to it. I really like the ethereal look to the foreground. I'm surprised the big waves in the background have some much definition with a 6 second exposure.

I like the effect you achieved David. As mentioned it is very realistic of many Oregon coastal mornings. OR, it also reminds me of descending in a plane down into the cloud cover below. Well done!

I like this a lot, David. It conveys a great mood. I wonder what it would look like with a bit off the bottom to bring the rocks more into the foreground?

Fascinating. It almost looks like blowing sand.

Very nice. Really like the feel of this, especially viewing the larger photo.
