Western Washington Prairie Shoot May 18th
Dennis has agreed to host a shoot in Littlerock area (just south of Olympia) on May 18th. Catherine and I plan to be there and hope many of you will be too! Not only will there be a variety of prairie wildflowers at peak season, but also some birds that are unusual for Western Washington such as Western Bluebirds and Western Meadowlarks. Logistics information to come. I hope you can make it!

Hi all:

Just a quick invite, since most people aren't aware we have prairies on the wet side of the mountains. The flowers are starting to pop in force and soon they'll be a sea of blue camas spotted with assorted yellows. Mima Mounds Natural area near Littlerock is always a good choice (Washington Discover pass required). Glacial Heritage County Nature Preserve, a few miles south of there will be open for Prairie Appreciation day on May 11th (see http://www.prairieappreciationday.org/ for directions.

Happy shooting :wavey:

These colors "with dew" are really amazing. The OOF patterned BG rally a plus in framing these blooms. Really nice job Dennis.

Oh, man! THat's a gorgeous portrait of the Camas Lily, Dennis. Thanks for the tips on places to go, time frame, etc. Maybe see you out there.

Thanks for the tips Dennis! I may have to stop there on my way home from the Gorge Waterfall shoot.

Hi Everyone. The Camas is about done, but there should still be plenty of individual specimens this weekend. Luckily there are also a lot of other plants coming on such as the Death Camas and Columbine. The Balsamroot is looking really good right now and I think it will still be fine this weekend. I've created a Google map of some south sound sites. Since Glacial Heritage is where I hang out the most, I have a lot of detailed locations within it. Here's the link http://goo.gl/maps/vSd71 Note: When I click on the map link it opens in terrain view. I think it works better in Satellite view as you can see the unofficial gravel roads.

Please drop me a line if you're planning on coming Saturday, so I can figure out a good location to meet. Steve is estimating three or four, which is few enough to just meet at my house. For more, we should probably meet at the entrance to Glacial Heritage. It's shown on my map as the access road, just follow that road until you come to a gate (you'll to an "L" around a Weyerhauser tree farm field). For those coming, I'll send a final meeting place Friday. I look forward to meeting you.

So far, Catherine and Larry Simpson have said they are coming. Anyone else? (And me too!)

What time would we like to meet at Littlerock? I would vote 7:30 or 8:00 but I'm also flexible.
