I managed to break the tripod collar on my 500mm, for the second time in 14 months. It was repaired quickly and capably the first time at the Nikon El Segundo facility.
I understand they have closed and moved to wilshire Ave in LA? The Yelp and other reviews of the wilshire facility are terrible. I'm reluctant to use them
Any other suggestions?
PS: The whole 500mm lens has to go in and get disassembled to put a new tripod collar on...yes, I'm sure..went thru this absurdity before.

PS: Found a authorized Nikon repair place in sacramento. I'd rather drive the lens there (2 hour drive) and drive to retrieve it, than ship it to and from LA. I'll update after I call Precision Camera Repair in Sacramento tomorrow.
I have found that while their communications leave a lot to be desired, the repair service and turnaround time are very good. This was using the El Segundo Facility. They also had poor Yelp reviews. The updates on their website do not work, and don't even think of trying to talk to a real person on the phone. I don't think there are too many other options. Good luck.

I had my lens repaired at the LA repair facility in January.. A little slow- 45 days, they said that they were waiting for parts. Other than that it was a successful repair.
