There have been many things tearing me away from photography lately but ironically where I live has an abundance of subjects just waiting for me to pick up the camera gear.
With a game shoot on the next farm pheasants are a common sight but usually it is the males that are noticed. Personally I think this is a shame as the females are beautiful in their own right yet I can never seem to do them justice.

Canon 1d, 100-400mm @400mm, 1/250, f5.6, iso 320, handheld, full frame.

Agree that the females are under-appreciated. Your shot does her justice, Chris. Good capture.

Hi Chris - good to see you posting. I like this a lot - think the bird is picking up a very slight green tinge from the grass

Hi Chris - hope all is well.

Pretty bird. I would have like the breast feathers to be in focus too.

Hi Chris,

Good to see you posting.....

Nice image, all the females I seem to photograph are just poking their heads over the grass, like the framing and detail in the head with a good bg.

Is that you I see reflected in the eye?

Hi Chris

Very nice portrait shot. Sharp eye which is what counts for this type of image although maybe going to f8 would help the sharpness on the rest of the bird.

cheers
