Resting after storm
What caught my eye-the way this little one was resting on the leaf. This was Sunday morning at Lost Valley, after all the rain on Saturday. I was walking the trail and this one stood out from all the green.

What a great catch, Dottie. The raindrops add to the shot also. Great work!

Thanks Tom. Someone asked and yes, those raindrops were placed by nature and not by me...LOL! I finally got out of the house for a weekend and enjoyed EVERY minute of being in the hills!

Very nice image Dottie. Super vision to spot this one in Lost Valley ... it's a target rich environment for sure. Love the droplets around the leaf and the beautiful little bloom "resting" too.

Very nice Dottie. I tried to i.d. this in my book, but was unsuccesful. Can you tell me what it is?

Wish I could Jan, but I am not up on my flower identification. I would think an Iris......can anyone I.D. for us?

Don't have a reference book handy but the bloom looks like a violet of some sort to me.

Ha! told you I did not know my flowers! Wayne, I believe you are correct. According to the Audubon Guide and Google Images, this appears to be a Dog Violet.

Maybe a monkey flower or some species of blue violet. Just checked my book again!

The bloom and leaf look a lot like a "common blue violet" based on a couple of pictures I found online Jan.

After reading online, the common blue violet has a separate stalk for leaf and flower. This flower and leaf were on the same stalk. Interesting!

Might be time to call in the big guns ... Don Kurz, where are you?

Beautiful, and the droplets ringing the leaf are a great feature.

Regardless of the type, a beautiful violet capture Dottie. Nice eye finding it, and the heart-shaped pattern of droplets is really special. :toast:
