Big Dominguez Canyon
Waterfall on Big Dominguez Creek

Here's one from my quick trip to Dominguez Canyons this past weekend. It was great to get out and enjoy the canyon scenery. The new bridge at Bridgeport makes access to the lower parts of the canyons much easier.

Comments and critiques welcome.

The Dominguez Wilderness Study area is part of the Uncompahgre Plateau South of Colorado National Monument. The lower trailhead is on the Gunnison River at Bridgeport, about 20 miles South of Grand Junction.

Wow - that looks gorgeous! I have to make a trip out there as well. Any wildflowers out there, or is it already to late for that?

Very cool image Scott! Your own little oasis!! I'll have to make it out one of these days too!

Folks, check out Scott's previous Hot Spots write up for this place too: Dominguez Canyons

Great shot and location. My only suggestion would be to use a neutral density filter to keep the shutter open even longer (blur water even more) and tame the bright rocks on the lower left. Overall, I like it!

Great shot Scott, another place on my short list of places to go. The 30D certainly appears capable of producing outstanding images in the hands of a talented shooter

Scott, thanks for showing the nice photo. There is always too much to do, but I had hoped to visit here in the late spring or fall. Looks like the new access point opens a few options.

Beautiful! Looks like a nice spot for an afternoon dip, too...although maybe a tad chilly.

Thanks for all the comments! :wavey:

Rene, the wildflowers were definitely in bloom. Considering this is basically desert, there was quite an assortment. I tried to shoot many of them so I could id them later (with Dave Dahms awesome Rocky Mountain Wildflowers book). Here's just some of the flowers I saw and captured images of... Nuttal Evening Primrose, Wild Geranium, Scarlet Gilia Fairy Trumpet, Yellow Salsify, Nelson Larkspur, Yucca and Prickly Pear cactus, and 5 others I have not been able to id.

There was also the super-neon, spring green Cottonwood trees and many Desert Bighorn tracks. :jump:

Rick, The water was nice! I dipped feet and head in the cool stream before heading back. It felt great considering it was 89 degrees when I arrived back at the parking lot around noon.

Really nice image, Scott. My brother and I were going to backpack up there a few weeks ago until he remembered a previous obligation. I was gonna go solo but ended up going somewhere else instead. I know the pedestrian bridge at Bridgeport will increase use of these canyons, and you can count me among the increase!
