I went to Chaco over the weekend. Although I shot a lot of ruins, this is my favorite photo from the trip:

We saw three of these lizards, and they are very cute, both the way they look and walk. This was taken with a P&S camera (Nikon 8400) in macro mode.

Nice pics!
Collared lizards are very neat critters. They actually tame down very quickly (unless they think your finger is a grasshopper ) and for being as photogenic as your photo shows - I don't have any pics of them...yet.

Very sharp shot. I used to have a collared lizard as a pet when I was a kid (caught it at Lake Powell). They are fascinating critters.

Cool shots all the way around, Momo! I especially like the first Chaco shot, with the doors. you're killing me though, as my wife and I are headed out for as big southern Utah trip next week, and had originally planned on hitting Chaco again, but decided it was a bit out of the way on this particular trip. Might have to reconsider! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks everyone for the comments. These lizards are pretty funny. At first, they run away very fast. But if you keep following them, they tame down and allow you to come really close. When I took the photo, the lens was about 5 inches from him. He did not seem to care. It was really fun!

Great stuff - love the colors and texture of the lizard. What kind is he or she? Also, the ruins are great, particularly the grand landscape image.

I don't know what kind of lizard that is. Hopefully someone else does.

This is a "Collared Lizard" of which there are several species under the genus "Crotaphytus" in the south west US.
