Red lilly beetle
not sure my wife will like this one - these little blighters cause havoc to our pot lillies, and now they seem to be enjoying the snakes head fritillaries too

Red lilly beetle on snakes head fritillary emerging seed pod.

Olympus E-3, 150mm F2 plus extension tube, iso 200, 1/80s at F4, tripod, cropped for presentation. Would welcome thoughts on whether to clean up the OOF Frit. stem. to right (I have removed an intruding in focus stem which was to the left)

Mike I agree with Neil about the head but what you have got looks good.

The oof stem is a little intrusive Mike but would not be too dificult to clean up. I assume the beetle is scoffing the plant hence no head?

Thanks all

These beasties are quite small headed, the eye is visible at the base of the antennae, and the mouthparts are tucked into the seedpod depression
