I'm on the point of upgrading to a D7100. The penny jar is getting fuller by the day.

As I haven't actually got the camera yet I am curious about how easy it is to use the 1.3 crop mode.

In an ideal world, for me at least, it shoud be possible to program the Fn button so that the user can switch between DX and 1.3 crop without having to revert to the menu screens.

Is it as simple as this? How fiddly is it to change modes in the field?

There's a specific area of the menu where you can setup a shortcut for this mode. I press function and rotate one of the thumb dials and boom I've changed the mode. Really easy to do on the fly and very "natural" feeling. You can also go about it by pressing the "i" button on the bottom left which brings up a number of settings that you can scroll through and change. Obviously the first way is the best route... You might also be able to set it up under User 1 with User 2 being non-cropped, but haven't tried that out yet.
