I have a canon 180mm macro lens and was wondering if any of you have ever used this type of lens for regular nature shots(non macro).
This lens is the sharpest lens that I have ever owned and I have several L lenses. I was thinking about putting it in my bag for
wildlife with the 1.4 adapter for a medium length lens for backpacking. I would use my 24-105 for most shots and my walk around lens and the 180/250for wildlife. Would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this issue.
Sure. There's nothing that says you can't use a macro lens as a regular lens. Good macro lenses tend to be sharp and they do focus to infinity, just like a non-macro lens.
No, I haven't done this, but I have heard of many people doing it. One of my friends carries her 100 Macro all the time when we're out shooting photos and she gets some great images with it. It's something I'm not used to doing, so I think it's going to be hard for me to get used to doing this, but I'm going to try!
I did this for a while with my Sigma 150. but it's very heavy and as soon as I picked up the Tamron 70-300 the macro stays at home on longer treks. maybe not as sharp but much lighter and versatile.
the macro does just fine for landascapes.
