I guess dolphins are something of a wildlife photography standard judging by the number of shots you see published. Other than a couple of brief failed attempts with river dolphins in South America this was my first real opportunity to photograph them. It is not as easy as the many published photos make you think, you have to anticipate in advance where the animals are going to come up. I have several hundred failures to remind me that I am not very good at it, but a few successes to show that it can be done.
These are dusky dolphins, photographed off the coast of Kaikoura, South Island, New Zealand.
