Stilt Sandpiper - Late Spring Oddity
The very late spring has given us a lot of unusual birds in Interior Alaska. There was a small flock of Stilt Sandpipers, perhaps as many as 15, for example. Typically we get one every 3-5 years.

Very difficult light, a very spooky bird and a lot of Photoshop. Not good enough for the Avian Forum, but good enough for documentation anyway.

Canon 1D-X, 300mm x 2.0TC, hand held laying in mud.

Selectively lightened bird and darkened background. Moderate sharpening. Heavy crop - this is 25% of full frame.
