So often in our region mountains are the focus of the attention of nature photographers and visitors. However, plains, prairies and grasslands make up at least one third of most of the states in which we live. Though these locations may be underrepresented by photographers and can be a challenge to portray visually, they have a unique beauty that can be unlocked by those willing to appreciate their subtleties. This month, show us your images of plains, prairies and grasslands.
Here's an image from the Pawnee Buttes, Pawnee National Grassland in northeastern Colorado to get us started. I liked the big sky in this landscape and a conversion to black and white seemed to accentuate the grasses as well as the clouds.
Going through my files it seems like most of my prairie images are from outside the RMNP states. (Kansas, South Dakota, Nebraska) but I did find this one in the files. Giant sunflowers found on the vast prairies at the end of one of the east/west runways of DIA.
After a disappointing shoot at Pawnee Butttes, I was pleasantly surprised with this sunset right as I was passing the old cemetery. With a passing storm the temperature had dropped significantly and coupled with the wind, the whole experience was creepy.

After work today I decided to head out east and see what I could find. I didn't use a map and don't have any idea where this is other than eastern Colorado.
