Saturday I made the drive up to Sedona to possibly catch a sunset and to be in a position to get to west fork early in the AM instead of driving 2 hours from PHX. Sedona was packed as usual, but I was able to find some solitude, and even had a heck of a sunset which I royally screwed up. This morning I met up with Doug K to hike west fork to see if the wildflowers were blooming. This first image is from sunset Saturday evening, although not the pinnacle of the amazing light I saw.

I found this on the side of some sandstone near red rock crossing and was interested in the rich greens and scattered flowers mixed in. Almost reminded me of those awesome gorge images from the PNW.

This morning along the subway section of the west fork trail.

I enjoyed the colors in this scene. It was simple, and quiet.

Had to get the colorful river rocks below. This is a pretty low angle.

Peter, my preference would be for #3 in the series. The rocks in the water of #5 turned out well, but there seems to be some blue and fogginess/lack of contrast in the walls though.
Great work all around Peter, but #4 really hits the spot for me, really nice light in the creek and nice highlights on the foliage. Looks like a cool hike.
The colors on 3,4,5 are spectacular. Especially the rocks in 5.

Thanks everyone!
Doug that last shot was a two image blend. For some reason the colors in those walls came out like that and I tried to add more contrast, but it looked very strange especially with heavy shadows. I am thinking of returning this weekend and rework a few shots. Might have to get there a bit earlier.
Nice work, Peter!
Not sure how you bollixed up the sunset, but the first one looks real good to me. My favorite is the second for the lush greens and nice flowers. PNW in NAZ.
I like the last two canyon images, too. Nicely composed, and the scenes are terrific!
Not too keen on the first mostly because of the exaggerated orange in the 'tunnel' area, which really grabs my eye (in the wrong way). All in all, a real fine portfolio from one day. I'm lucky to walk away with one!
Peter, I really been enjoying your photos since you have started participating at NPN. This series is no exception. They are all nice. I like the first pic the most. I get a peaceful feeling with that one. It makes me wish I were there.
Really love this set of shots, Peter. All great stuff. I especially love the "flower box" in #3, and the other two "in canyon" shots are right up there in my book. The only thing I can find "wrong" with the sunset shot is the strong but gray cloud line, which is nothing you did - the composition's great and the mood is nice and post-sunset relaxed.
