Someone is studying Rock Ptarmigan along the Denali Highway. This gentleman is equipped with a radio collar and antenna. Whoever is doing the study has my admiration. Capturing and collaring Rock Ptarmigan has to be difficult; they are incredibly spooky birds. Even with a cannon net, it would be very hard.
Jim, excellent capture of this beautiful bird. I recall seeing many of these during my years in Alaska.
As I recall I thought the plumage changes with the seasons a bit. Although, this guy is all white and we're pretty well over the white snow time of the year.
