I'm currently running Photoshop CS3. I just ordered PSCS6. I'm looking for recommendations for a book to get me up to speed on the new version. I'm quite familiar with general Photoshop usage so I don't need information on basic features like curves or levels. I'm looking for something along the lines of a "new features" book.
I'm only interested in basic Photoshop CS6. Not the Extended version or the full Creative Suite. Nor am I interested in Lightroom.
Mark, you may not be an eBook guy, but maybe play one temporarily, because this is the book you're looking for and it's Kindle-Only (you can download the Kindle app and run it on PC or Mac), and even better, it's free. Have a look!. And there's also one more that's only $2.51, but Kindle-only, again, new features only, right here.
For paper versions, there are several that are "beyond beginner" that I like (and own), such as this one, and this one (which I would suggest FIRST), and this one. I have and suggest all three. There will be beginner stuff in the first chapter or two, but it gets quite good as you read in each one. Check out TOC's on Amazon. These will get you cookin'!
FWIW, my favorite things in CS6 are the new amazing sharpening and noise reduction in ACR, the Refined Edge feature for selecting everything including hair, wheat and grass, the new crop tool that I hated first but got to love it (it was stolen from LR4 actually), Content Aware fill, seriously improved printing dialog box, Bridge (best version yet, use it all the time), and the fact that I can F-I-N-A-L-L-Y make the user interface dark, almost black. About time!! There's other stuff about CS6 that's awesome, just can't remember it all right now.
Looks like Paul took care of you! And me too, I got the freebie also. In addition to reading, I like instructional videos and the Photoshop Videos by Ben Willmore are great. Just google him.
I'm really a fan of Martin Evening, this guy really explains things very well, also Scott Kelby is good. I don't have CS6 yet but I have both Authors books on CS4 and they are very well written. Just my 2 bits.

Cheap is good but I'm not an e-book guy.
Thanks,
Mark
