Another iconic Australian mammal I wanted to photograph while in the country was an echidna. Imagine my delight when we came across one right by the road, and out in the open in broad daylight too. The resemblance to hedgehogs is, of course, entirely superficial, they are monotremes, egg laying mammals, related only to the platypus. For those who would suggest a lower point of view, the roadside in question had a number of fire ant nests and the guide made me move every few seconds. This was as low as I could get in that time.
I was going to mention the POV, David, but seeing as though you had Fire Ants to contend with then no problem at all, they're pretty nasty little buggers. Another good image from your Aus trip.
Ants David, dont mention Ants. Reminds me of my son and I picking them out of each others unmentionable areas by torch light in a tent at Speke Bay, Lake victoria after a session watching bats outside in the dark. ah the joys of the bush
Here I am thinking you are a roughtie toughtie photographer and you are scared of a few ants! Seriously though I don't blame you for keeping off the deck as most things in Aussie will probably give a nasty bite. Cracking shot of an iconic species, you are certainly making the most of your trip down under.
