Has anyone been to Yellowstone the 1st week of November, just before
the roads close? Are the animals still active at that time?
Any information would be very helpful.
I live just outside the east gate and have been in right up until closing day. There is still animal activity if you know where to look. I can help you with that as the time gets closer. The issue I see is if you're traveling any great distance to get here. The opening/closing of roads is sometimes on an hour by hour basis both at the beginning of the season in early spring as well as in November. There are lots of other opportunities for photography in and around the Cody area that time of year in case the roads in the park close, but if you're set on the park only, I would try to get here a week or two earlier if possible.
I agree with Elaine. The weather is very unpredictable this time of the year. Dunraven Pass will already be closed. You'll see a lot of buffalo moving from place to place but not other species of animals so much. If you are into wildlife photography I would wait and plan a trip next spring when the animals are down low and close to the roads. This is the best time of the year for wildlife photography.
