D7000 500mm f4 ISO 250 1/1000s at f8 resting on bean bag whilst lay prone.
The Dotterel is known as a "tame" bird and this particular bird was no exception. Once it had accepted my prescence it showed no fear whatsoever and regularly walked right up to me well within focusing distance with the 500mm. This shot was taken as it walked through some long dead grass and it looks like mist or smoke. I took a number of shots of it as it walked about but this is the only one with this effect. The shape of the bird's body is due to its peculiar way of rolling as it walks, almost like a drunken sailor!
Many thanks for the comments on my last post. I am amazed that the misty shot proved to be more popular.
Yes, a very good shot, Nick. Love the mush and the head angle, my only very slight nit is that it needs just a touch more room at the bottom if you have it ( IMO ).
Andy.......no more space at all as this is FF and after this one its legs were cut off! I guess I could add canvas although I have not got the software to do this as I use capture NX2 only.

Nick.
Taking a long hard look at you Nick, I like the quirky neck and head position and the suggested misty effect works well.
Wonderful use of DOF!
