I currently shoot a Canon 5d Mark II. I used to shoot Nikon and have always admired Nikons glass so a few years ago I purchased a Nikon to Canon lens converter that allows me to shoot Nikon glass if I choose. Today, I'm thrilled I kept that converter; it opens up all that nice Nikon glass to select from. I only recommend Nikon glass for Canon users for landscape or static shooting only. Basically any tripod shooting works well.

Compose and focus wide open, then stop down, then shoot. That's it.

I recently decided it was time to expand my focal range from the 24mm tilt shift, and 70-200. I wanted the 24mm-70mm focal range. I didn't want to spend the cash on the new Canon 24-70, the F2.8 or the F4. I researched the Nikon line and discovered the new Nikon 24-85 kit lens that kept showing up on Craigs List because it's the new kit lens for the Nikon D600. Customers are keeping their $1,800.00 24-70 2.8, and DUMPING the new, unused $600.00 24-85's.

The research says the 24-85 has a load of barrel distortion at 24mm and quickly turns to pincushion distortion at 40mm. However the lens is tack sharp between 26mm-50mm. Well, that's the range I'm looking for! The distortion is basically nothing between 28-35mm.

I picked a new, unused 24-85 in a box, for $300.00 last January. They sell for 595.00 at Amazon. A few months later I'm totally convinced this lens is as sharp as my $2,000.00 24mm tse between the VERY useful landscape focal ranges of 26mm-40mm.

That's not a bad deal folks. Prime sharp lens covering 26-40, virtually zero distortion (in that range), light weight and small, and only $300.00. Lastly, I'm wagering I can sell this lens one day for about $300.00 if needed.

Good Nikon to Canon converters go for around $100.00 these days.

Just thought some of you Landscapers might be interested in great way to add inexpensive and critical focal range to your camera bag
